Amazon Time Zones
There are 4
time zones in Brazil. The eastern half of the country,
which includes the normal (at least initial)visitor destinations
such as Rio, São Paulo, Brasilia etc., is 3 hours behind
Greenwich Mean Time (GMT-3) and 2 hours ahead of the USA Eastern
Standard Time (EST+2).
For those travelling to the Amazon, you need to
knock off an additional hour, so that
Amazon time (AMT) is
GMT-4 and EST+1.
Of course you have to also consider any daylight saving time changes
both in your country of origin and in Brazil. Clocks are put forward
one hour in east of Brazil from October to February, but there is no
daylight saving time adjustment at all in the Amazon.
Confusing? Well, to save you any hassle, below we show the current official
time in the east of Brazil and in the Amazon (from timeanddate.com). The rest is up to you!
